Washing & Care

Remove inserts from pocket diapers before washing.  Then:

  • Cold Soak (approximately 20 minutes)
  • Set washing size load to Large (if possible with your machine)
  • Wash on warm or hot with about 1/4 cup detergent
  • Run an additional rinse cycle to ensure all detergent is removed from diapers - an additional rinse cycle(s) maybe needed if you notice bubbles/suds in the final rinse
  • Drying in the dryer is allowed with PUL fabric diapers & inserts.  Use the shortest amount of time needed and allow your diapers to cool before stretching the elastics
  • Air Drying your diapers will help extend the life of the elastic in your diapers

Detergents to use: (free of dyes & perfumes)

Tide (Regular or Free), Cheer, Purex, Sunlight & Era

Do not use any fabric softeners or dryer sheets.  This causes a waxy build up on the diaper fabric and can cause repelling of urine and decrease the absorbancy of the diaper.  If you need to use diaper rash cream, place a small baby wash cloth, scrap of fleece fabric, rice paper liner or 1/3 of a sheet of Viva paper towel in the diaper  to protect the fleece.  Do not wash any items that have cream on them with your diapers.

Do not use Bleach - they will break down the fabric and will decrease the life of the diaper.

Stripping Diapers:

Stripping refers to the removal of residue on the diapers.  To strip diapers simply hand wash your diaper with your regular dish soap (Dawn works fine), add a bit of dish soap to the fleece, either rub the fleece vigoriously together or use a hard bristle tooth brush to scrub the fleece.  Turn the diaper inside out and repeat to this side.  Rinse very good making sure the water runs clear.

Removing Stains:

The best way to avoid stains is to wash soiled diapers every 2-3 days.  To naturally remove stains allow freshly washed diapers to air dry lying flat in the sunshine.
